The heart of this journey was the profound sense of embarking on a true expedition. As I’ve shared before, seeing the National Geographic Explorer up close for the first time was overwhelmingly emotional. There it was, a vessel of countless adventures, standing right before me – a tangible promise of the extraordinary journey that lay ahead. The reality of it all struck me deeply; this wasn’t just a trip – it was the adventure I’d dreamed of.
Even when we faced the mighty Drake Passage on our way back to America, enduring 36 hours of powerful seas, I felt no fear. Instead, I was filled with a readiness that seemed to match the ocean's own energy. This was the moment I had prepared for, and I was fully present, exhilarated by every second of the voyage.
